This year, Havis Amanda will be capped by Aalto University Student Union on May Day Eve, April 30th at 6pm. On May Day the traditional student picnic at Ullanlinnanmäki in Kaivopuisto Park starts at 9am. The programme includes speeches by student representatives, singing by YL Male Voice Choir, sunshine and picnic food. The Swedish-speaking students meet in the morning in Kaisaniemi Park.

Pre May Day
28 Apr, 10am-10pm, Art for Us! May Day pre party at Ateneum (Kaivokatu 2)
Students take a head start for May Day in the event day at Ateneum. Free admission with a student card throughout the day to Illusions of Reality exhibition. The evening includes films, music, discussions and special offers. A more detailed programme is available here.
29 Apr, 8pm-2am, Pre May Day party of language subjects in restaurant boat Wäiski (Hakaniemenranta 11)
The theme of the joint Pre May Party of Bouffe, KouKi, Setenta, SUB and Umlaut is "Carnival". You can show up dressed as a circus animal if you feel like it, other interpretations and implementations of the theme are acceptable. Tickets €2, additional cloakroom fee €2,5.
29 Apr, 9pm-4am, EKY's Pre May Day at Bar Fever (Annankatu 32)
The traditional Pre May Day party of Veterinary Bachelor Association EKY offers inexpensive drinks all night, dance contests and the classic Mr. and Ms. gastrocnemius! Tickets (including an overall badge and a doughnut) cost €3 in advance and €5 at the entrance, advance sale in Viikki on 26-28 Apr, 11am-1pm.
May Day Eve
30 Apr, 10.30am onwards, MYY's homemade wine contest at Viikki's C-grundi (Talonpojantie 13)
The traditional homemade wine contest of the students of environmental sciences has 6 different series in which everyone can participate (no advance registration, take 2 bottles of your wine with you). Before the actual contest, a vocal group consisting of MYY members will perform, and after the contest you can go to the sauna.
30 Apr, 5pm onwards, washing and capping of Havis Amanda statue
Aalto University Student Union is in charge of the capping this year. The show starts at 5pm and the capping takes place at 6pm.
30 Apr, 5.30pm onwards, HYDE’s barbecue and game night in Seurasaari
The Scouts of the University of Helsinki will play, hang out and barbecue in Seurasaari on 30 April. Bring your own sausages and tofu wieners, you can also bring outdoor games and any other ideas for the night with you. We will meet at Seurasaari gate at 5.30pm, please sign up no later than 27 Apr at elina.k.salo (ät) helsinki.fi.
30 Apr, 8pm-3am, VappuAllianssi 2011 at Pohjanhovi (Hietaniemenkatu 14 B)
In the common May Day party of Biosfääri, Humanisticum, MMYL and TYT, Pohjanhovi will be transformed into May Day Hall and the crossdisciplinary May Day atmosphere continues long into the night. DJs Death Rattle and Pluris are in charge of music. Tickets €7 (including cloakroom fee and overall badge), advance sale begins in week 16.
30 Apr, 9pm-4am, May Day of Hämis at Hämäläis-Osakunta (Urho Kekkosen katu 4-6 D)
The largest student party of the year on four floors. Performers include The Under the Influences, Keytoes, Madcraft and DJs. Tickets €8 to Hämis members and €12 to other students (tickets only with the student card!), advance sale at Hämis from 11 April onwards at 3pm-6pm.
1 May, 9am onwards, May Day celebration of university students at Ullanlinnanmäki

1 May, 11am-11.15am, HYY's May Day greeting to the President of the Republic in the yard of the Presidential Palace
HYY traditionally greets the President of the Republic Tarja Halonen with roses on May Day. The public is welcome to listen to the May Day greeting by Chairperson of the Student Union Maija Jäppinen and YL Male Voice Choir in front of the Presidential Palace.
1 May, 2pm-4pm, May Day Ball of Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra in the Old Student House (Mannerheimintie 3)
In the traditional May Day ball, you can enjoy the May Day atmosphere and the magic of dance accompanied by the salon and symphony orchestra compositions of Helsinki University Symphony Orchestra. The orchestras are conducted by Jaakko Haapaniemi. Tickets €7/5 (including a glass of bubbly).
