HYY is looking for volunteers to project groups of projects in Mozambique and Bangladesh and coordinators for the both projects. 4 to 6 volunteers will be chosen to both groups.

Apply to become the coordinator of HYY’s Mozambique project’s project group

As the Bangladesh project ends at the end of 2018, it is time to make plans for a new project. The Children and Youth Foundation is currently searching for a local partner for the project from the target country. We are also applying for project support from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs for the project.

In 2018, the project’s planning group will work on participating in the drafting of the project plan and monitoring plans, the preparation of the funding application and communicating to HYY’s members about the project planning. Additionally, our aim is to make the project’s planning trip to Mozambique in 2018. The coordinator of the project group is expected to participate in the project’s planning trip.

The selected coordinator is expected to have:
Experience of project management
Communication skills (communicating with other organisations and possible partners is central to the position)

Participation in HYY’s Development Cooperation Committee’s meetings
Commitment to the position for the entire year

We also hope the coordinator to have:

Apply to become a volunteer in HYY’s Bangladesh project

HYY is looking for volunteers for its Bangladesh project group. Volunteers will act in a project group led by a project coordinator. 4–6 volunteers will be selected for the project group.

Bangladesh project
The goal of the ‘community-based climate resilience programme in Bangladesh’ project, carried out by HYY and the Bangladesh Center for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK), is to improve the climate resilience of Bangladeshi rural communities by teaching them to adapt to and prepare for the environmental problems created and strengthened by climate change. The project focuses on the weakest communities and the most vulnerable groups of people – whose livelihood is directly dependent on local natural resources and thus under threat due to the ecological changes. Project activities are based on strengthening the people’s own customs and knowledge as part of adapting to climate change as well as on increasing communal operating methods. The three-year project was launched in 2016 and is carried out in its entirety using 0.7% of HYY’s budget.

A more detailed description of the project can be found on the Development Cooperation Committee’s website: http://blogs.helsinki.fi/kehy-valiokunta/bangladesh-hanke-2016-2018/

What do the activities include?
The volunteers’ tasks include assisting in project administration by, for instance, monitoring the progress of the project, reporting, communicating about the project and organising events. Volunteers working in the project have meetings led by the project coordinator and, if necessary, in smaller groups, stay in contact via email and also perform tasks independently. The project group is expected to actively communicate to HYY’s members about the project. Their activities also include drafting the annual report and quarterly reports. The activities require the project group members’ active participation throughout the year.

What is expected from volunteers?
Applicants must commit to the project group’s activities for the entire year and be prepared to work as part of a team consisting of students from different fields of study. The group meets twice a month on average. Project group members are also expected to participate in HYY’s Development Cooperation Committee’s meetings. Volunteers act in their positions for one year at a time.

We hope the volunteers have:
Previous experience of development cooperation
Knowledge of the project themes (Bangladesh: agricultural and environmental issues)
Fluency in English as a requirement
Experience of developing countries
Good writing and communication skills
Knowledge of HYY’s development cooperation activities
Experience of project work or project planning

However, above all else we value enthusiasm, the possibility to participate in meetings and other activities regularly and the motivation to act in the position actively throughout the entire year.
