Students’ wellbeing and mental health
Study psychologists are there for you when you encounter difficulties with your studies. You can seek their help when your studies are delayed, you need help to develop your study skills, your thesis is not progressing, studying gives you anxiety or you have lost your motivation, for instance. Study psychologists provide both individual and group counselling for basic degree students of all faculties at the University of Helsinki. Mental health issues are one of the most common health problems among students. If you are worried about your own mental health, the FSHS is there to support you. The FSHS offers both urgent and non-urgent help for mental health issues, and crisis help is also available. You can discover various online courses to help you in changes in your life, to control stress and nervousness and to prevent tiredness, for instance.

Looking for peer support? Nyyti ry is an organisation that supports students’ mental wellbeing through peer support. Nyyti offers students the chance to discuss issues that weigh on their mind through a discussion forum, a chat and various online groups. The organisation’s website also features various information packages for developing life skills.

Are you in need of someone to talk to? Is something weighing on your mind? There are three university chaplains working at the University who you can visit to discuss any topic you want to. You could, for instance, discuss loneliness, the future or your study motivation. The university chaplains are on call on campuses, and are there for all students regardless of their beliefs.

The Finnish Association for Mental Health
The Finnish Association for Mental Health provides diverse help in different crises in life. In acute situations, help is provided by, for instance, a crisis service you can call anonymously. Mental health professionals and trained volunteers are on call at the crisis service. The Finnish Association for Mental Health also provides various peer support groups, including ones especially aimed at young people and young adults. Through the association, it is possible to receive conversational therapy or help through a support person.

Sekasin chat is a chat maintained by the Finnish Association for Mental Health, providing an opportunity to talk with mental health professionals and trained volunteers anonymously. The chat is open every day of the year, at 7 am–12 midnight from Monday to Friday and at 3 pm–12 midnight on Saturdays and Sundays. You can discuss any topic that weighs on your mind in the chat.

Women’s Line is meant for every woman and girl suffering from abuse, threats or fear. Volunteered women trained by Women’s Line answer the phone. All calls are confidential and free-of-charge.
